Open since 1993, the Carmel Valley Branch Library is one of the 36 branches in the City of San Diego Public Library (SDPL) system. It was designed by Architect Rusty Coombs, featuring open and airy entrances with an outdoor sitting area. Public art is incorporated into the building with Philip Merlin Matzigkeit's friezes and mosaics, and Mary Buckman's bronze sculpture. The community room (with a capacity of 140) is used for a large variety of functions including children's, civic and cultural events.
