FRIENDS OF THE CARMEL VALLEY LIBRARY!

These free family music programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library. All are on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 7:45 p.m. in the community room of the library.

An Evening of Operatic Solos, Duets, and Trios at the Carmel Valley Library on June 8



June's free family music program sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will be presented on Wednesday, June 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the library's community room. Sopranos Mariko Kanamitsu and Pamela Narbona, and baritone David Marshman will perform songs by Mendelssohn and arias by Offenbach, Mozart, and Donizetti from The Tales of Hoffmann, The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, The Elixir of Love, and Cosi Fan Tutte. They will be accompanied by pianist Mizue Shapiro. The program will last 45 minutes.

Soprano Mariko Kanamitsu received a BA in voice and a MA in music education from Musashino Music College in Tokyo. She moved to this country in 1985, studied voice and performed in the Washington DC area, and taught voice and piano in Maryland. Since moving to Del Mar Heights in 2001 she has performed at the Athenaeum in La Jolla, USD, community colleges, the San Diego Central Library, and several city branch libraries, including Carmel Valley. She is the music director of Japanese Chorus Kaguya since January 2011.

Mezzo-soprano Pamela Narbona graduated with a degree in Vocal Performance from San Diego State University and is currently working on her MA in Musicology there. She performs with Cappella Gloriana, Bach Collegium San Diego, and Sacra Profana. And she is a founding member of the San Diego Wedding Singers/Velvetones, a local a cappella ensemble. She has also been a soloist and section leader in various churches in San Diego, and during the holiday season performs with the Full Measure Carolers.

Baritone David Marshman received his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He performs regularly with the San Diego Opera and Los Angeles Opera as a chorister and solo artist, where he has appeared in Romeo and Juliet, Lohengrin, Idomemeo, Don Pasquale, and others. David also performs frequently with the Bach Collegium San Diego and Sacra Profana. In June of this year David will be a guest artist with the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus in Franz Josef Haydn's Harmonie-Messe. He is also a voice teacher, operating a studio in Carmel Valley.

Mizue Shapiro, a native of Tokyo, studied classical piano and graduated from Musashino Music High School, majoring in piano performance. She also studied jazz piano at Ann School of Contemporary Music. Mizue has a bachelors? degree in music composition from San Diego State. One of her compositions won the New Composer's Award from the Japan Society of Contemporary Music in 2006. She is currently teaching piano, performing as an accompanist, and composing.
